Young Scotty pup's should only wear a soft collar for short periods each day. Always remove the collar when the puppy is unsupervised. A young pup could easily trap its neck and choke. The Scotty's neck will grow quickly, care should be taken that the collar is not too tight. Slip collars or choke chains should never be used on a Scotty, they can do serious damage to the dogs neck.

Many people are now using a  harness to control the dogs, the lead is attached to the centre bone of the harness and does not pull off the neck. If you intend to use a harness make sure you Scotty also wares a collar with identification, In most countries this is law.

The traditional collars worn by the Scotty is the Tartan collar, since the breed originated from Scotland. These come in many types of material, for many years the leather collar was the only type available. Today these collars are also made of a strong nylon and last a very long time.
