Changing your Scotty's food

When you change your Scotty's food, you need to do this slowly over several weeks. Don't stop giving the old food straight away, and change to something completely different, if you do then your Scotty will have a tummy upset.

If your feeding commercial food and want to change to "Human Food" then you should start with foods that light on the tummy. Chicken and rice is a good food to start with, but should be fed with his old food, slowly decreasing the amount of old food over the first week.

During this time, if there are no problems, and you reached the end of the week without any problems, then he should be fed chicken and rice only for a further 3 days to make sure he has adjusted.

Day 1
Add three quarters of their old food, and one quarter of chicken and rice
Day 2
Same as day 1
Day 3
Add half of their old food, and half of chicken and rice
Day 4
Same as day 3
Day 5
Add one quarter of their old food, and there quarters of chicken and rice
Day 6
Same as day 5
Day 7
Chicken and rice only

No problems ?, your now ready to do it all over again, just adding one new items

Day 10
chicken and rice, add a vegetable like green beans (Kidney beans/runner beans), try this for a few days, then add a little cauliflower !

The change must me slow, if you add something that don't agree with him, he may be sick, or will have an upset tummy and diarrhea. Make sure he is drinking his water as normal, don't add any salt or spice to his food, or cooking products like Perl barley or bicarbonate

Later he will eat and enjoy most if not all "human" food
