Scotland

Scotland is generally hilly, and it is traditionally divided into three geographic regions from north to south: The Highlands, the Lowlands, and the Southern Uplands. The Highlands are bisected from northeast to southwest by the fault line of the Great Glen, which is occupied by a series of lochs (lakes), of which Loch Ness is the best-known. The North West Highlands lie to the north of the Great Glen, and the more extensive Grampian Mountains lie to the south. 

Scotland has laid claim to five terriers, Skye, Cairn, Scottie, Dandie Dinmont, Scottish Terrier.

There is constant debate over which came first, and which breed was developed from the other.  Scotland is a mountainous country, its dog men were a stay-at-home lot, consequently each clan bred its terriers according to its own ideas. Some seem to think that the Skye is the oldest of all five breeds (but not as we know it today) and that the Scottish Terrier, or 'Scotty' as he is commonly called, is the Newest of breed.
